Hi, I’m Steve
I have a good deal of experience in working with addictions, and it is something that has touched my life in profound ways. I have also worked with people with cancer and their caregivers, along with various other issues. See below for the areas I can help with.
I am based in an office in Lymm, Cheshire, but I also offer home visits in the surrounding area if that is appropriate. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My Approach & Values
I believe that when you go to a counsellor, no matter what kind of counselling they offer, the most important thing by far is the relationship between you. If you’re going to get the most out of counselling, you must be able to trust the therapist.
Everything we discuss will be confidential within legal limits. In the normal run of things nothing you say to me will ever go beyond us. You can tell me what you really think of your boss, or what you wanted to say to your sister but couldn’t because of X, Y or Z, safe in the knowledge that they will never hear about it from me.
In our relationship, I am not the expert on you – you are. I will not be telling you what to do, and especially not what you should do, or that what you think about so-and-so is right or wrong. I will not be judging you or your actions in any way. What I will do is listen and explore things with you, try to help you see things you may not be aware of, so you can factor them in to your view of things. Sometimes that extra little bit of understanding can shift the whole picture for you.
